About

Dharohar, The History Society’ is a student body comprising all the students of the  Department of History. The society strives to engage in a wide range of academic and co- curricular activities to move beyond the textbook. It aims at enhancing the skills of the students to new heights. Over the years Dharohar has organised various events including talks by eminent historians such as Prof. Amar Farooqi, Prof. Upinder Singh, Prof. Arvind Sinha and many more, Heritage-walks to monuments like Qutub Complex and Humayun’s Tomb etc., Movie screenings, Dastaan-i-Goi, Photo exhibitions on various topics, Quizzes, Debates, Paper Presentations, visits to historical sites like Fatehpur Sikri and museums etc.

The core idea of the Society is to develop and bring forth the creative and leadership skills of the students, which enhance their self-growth and also contribute to the academic growth of the institution. College providing the stepping stone to the vast world outside it prepares students to face various challenges and excel in their area of interest as well as become a good and sensible citizen.

The Society is mentored by a Society Advisor, Teacher-Incharge and all other faculty members of the Department.

Major events organised

Dharohar- The history department society of PGDAV College organized an insightful one day seminar on the topic " DELHI THROUGH THE AGES" on November 7, 2023, held at the Old Seminar Hall. The event featured esteemed guests, Prof. B. R. Mani sir Hon'ble Vice Chancellor NMI & DG, national museum and Dr. Vasant K. Swarnkar sir Director (Museum) ASI, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker, respectively. Our principal Krishna Sharma mam initiated the inaugural session by extending a welcome address to the guest speakers. Our Chief Guest Prof. B. R. Mani enlightens us about the development of archaeological excavation in Delhi from the British times and gives an overall view about the development of Delhi in different times from the pre- historic time towards the British time. He also discussed deeply about the archaeological findings from his excavated sites Lal Court and Salim Garh in Delhi. After that, Dr. Vasant K. Swarnkar delivered his key note address focusing on the different stages of settlement in Delhi through the material obtained from the different excavations then he elaborated his excavation of Purana Qila in 2013-14 and 2022-23. He gave a comprehensive view of how Delhi evolved through the ages, portraying the rich and diverse legacy of this historic city. Dr. Ankit Agarwal sir, the TIC, then extended a vote of thanks to the guest for making the event memorable and insightful.

In the second session (open session) we have six presentations from the students of different colleges of Delhi University for the PPT competition. Cash prizes and certificates were given to all the winners. The third session concluded with a cultural program where students presented Haryanvi and Rajasthani folk dance and also sang a Pahadi folk song.

Dharohar, the history department society of PGDAV College organised a History Knowledge Competition on 19th march 2024 in collaboration with the BHARATIYA ITIHAS SANKALAN YOJANA SAMITI , the convenor of this competition was Dr Shabd Prakash and the Organiser was Dr Suresh Kumar Meena also this competition was well steered by Dr Shatrujeet Singh. This type of competition was organised for the 1st time by the history society (dharohar). Over 140 students registered and participated in the competition to showcase their knowledge towards history as this competition was open to all the courses of our college. Students who won the competition were given exciting cash prize over 5000 along with consolation prizes to 2 students.
