Activities of the Society

Through meticulously curated academic seminars, distinguished speakers, including renowned economists like Dr. Shamika Ravi, Prof Rathin Roy, Prof Pinaki Chakraborty, Dr Chinmay Tumbe, Prof Sudipta Sarangi and Dr. Sanjaya Baru have graced our forums, sharing invaluable insights and perspectives on pressing economic themes. In addition to academic seminars, Ecolibrium organizes a myriad of engaging events designed to nurture both academic and professional growth. From the thought-provoking Mock Niti Aayog exercises to the exhilarating paper presentations, spirited quizzes, and engaging declamation and book discussions, our society provides students with ample opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Speaker session by Dr. Shamika Ravi:-

On March 19, 2024, Ecolibrium orchestrated Ecolligence 2024, the annual festival of the Economics Society of PGDAV College, with the theme: “Viksit Bharat@2047”, focussing majorly  to foster awareness and stimulate intellectual discourse within the realm of economics. The event's pinnacle was a captivating speaker session , featuring Dr. Shamika Ravi, an esteemed economist, Secretary to the Government of India, and a distinguished member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. The event drew approximately 80 attendees, comprising both faculty and students.

Case Study Competition on Viksit Bharat@2047

As part of Ecolligence 2024, Ecolibrium coordinated an intercollege Case Study Competition titled "Navigating India’s Economic Reforms" on March 19, 2024. The competition focused on analyzing India's economic scenario until 1991, the application of the 'Washington Consensus,' and India's position in the global economy.

Conventional Debate Competition on Viksit Bharat@2047

Ecolibrium also organized an intercollege Conventional Debate Competition on March 19, 2024 on the theme “Viksit Bharat @2047" witnessing a participation of around fifty students from various colleges and universities. Serving as judges were Ms. Gitika Wahal, currently working in public policy space and Dr. Varun Bhushan, Assistant Professor of Economics at PGDAV College (M). The meticulous homework and extensive research by participants, combined with the thought-provoking comments from the judges, added depth to the discourse, creating an educational and engaging experience for all involved.

Book discussion on “Atma Nirbhar: A Swadeshi Paradigm”

Ecolibrium hosted a book discussion session on December 1, 2023, to honour the release of the groundbreaking book “Atma Nirbhar: A Swadeshi Paradigm”  edited by Prof. Ashwani Mahajan,  which features eighteen essays on Atma Nirbhar Bharat written by specialists from diverse fields,  including Ashok Kumar Lahiri, Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, N. K. Singh, and Bibek Debroy.

Book discussion on  'The Economics of Small Things'

On November 27, 2023, the students of Ecolibrium organized and participated in an in-house book discussion session focused on the book 'The Economics of Small Things' written by Sudipta Sarangi, embracing diverse viewpoints through respectful discourse, encouraging participants to delve deeper into profound concepts and challenging assumptions of economics.

Declamation session on  "Air Pollution and Its Economic Impact"

Ecolibrium hosted an in-house online declamation session on "Air Pollution and Its Economic Impact" on November 28th, 2023 where participants explored the economic, social, and physical effects of pollution, discussing recent news stories and economic developments. The session provided a platform for diverse ideas and fostered a rich exchange of perspectives .

Speaker session Dr. Sanjaya Baru

On April 04, 2023 Ecolibrium organised the annual economics fest on the theme "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: Contours of India's G20 Presidency". This theme aimed to raise awareness and celebrate India's G20 presidency. The event featured a speaker session by renowned author, editor, political commentator, and policy analyst, Sanjaya Baru. In the speaker session Dr. Sanjaya Baru,  discussed several crucial global economic issues and  provided insights into the history and significance of G20 in promoting international cooperation and coordination among the world's leading economies.

Ecolligence 23 hosted paper presentations by Dr. Srishty Kasana, Assistant Professor, DRC and Mr. Naveen Kumar, PhD scholar, DSE, on April 04, 2023.

Paper presentation competition on G20

An inter college paper presentation competition held on April 04, 2023 on the topic of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and the Contours of India’s G20 Presidency witnessed participation by nine undergraduate and postgraduate students from esteemed colleges and universities.The speakers majorly emphasized the importance of  G20 priority issues such as green construction, green development, education, and land development.

Conventional debate competition on G20

Ecolligence also organized a conventional debate competition on the topic: "Does the G20 contribute to inclusive and sustainable development with strengthened multilateralism?" on April 04, 2023. The competition proved to be highly productive and fruitful, as it showcased a variety of opinions and viewpoints on the economics of G20.

Research Paper Writing session

On February 3rd, 2023, Ecolibrium, hosted an informative session on Research Paper Writing, which aimed to introduce students to research and improve their writing and presentation skills, conducted by Ms. Surily Sahay, a renowned independent scholar and a prestigious alumni of PGDAV College from the batch of 2019. It offered a great opportunity to gain knowledge about the skills of writing research by all the attendees including several faculty members and undergraduate students.

Webinar on “Macroeconomics: theories and policies” by Dr. Alex M. Thomas

On October 8, 2021, Dr. Alex M. Thomas, Assistant Professor at Azim Premji University, conducted a webinar titled "Macroeconomics: Theories and Policies." Dr. Alex presented insights from his recent book with the same title, engaging attendees in discussions and addressing questions and comments related to the topic. His expertise in the field provided attendees with valuable perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of macroeconomic theories and their real-world implications. The interactive session left participants enriched and inspired to delve further into the subject matter.

Webinar On Intellectual Property Rights And WTO

On July 9, 2021, Prof. Biswajit Dhar from the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning at JNU conducted a webinar titled "Intellectual Property Rights and WTO”. Prof. Dhar presented a policy analysis of India's intellectual property rights concerning international practices and trade agreements. The session, chaired by Dr. Ashwani Mahajan, a prominent expert in the field, included an interactive Q&A session where Prof. Dhar addressed various questions and comments from the audience.

Discussion on the Book “Age of Pandemics”

The Departments of Economics and History, along with IQAC, organized a captivating discourse featuring Dr. Chinmay Tumbe, Assistant Professor at IIM Ahmedabad, on April 24, 2021. Delving into his recent work, "The Age of Pandemics," Dr. Tumbe illuminated historical pandemics and their societal impacts, drawing parallels with the current COVID-19 crisis. His erudite presentation captivated the audience, sparking a lively Q&A session and attracting over 150 participants, underscoring the enduring relevance of pandemics in shaping human history.

Brief Symposium on the book “Economics of Small Things by Prof. Sudipta Sarangi

The Department of Economics and IQAC collaborated to host a captivating webinar featuring Professor Sudipta Sarangi from Virginia Tech, USA, on April 21, 2021. Centered around his latest work, "The Economics of Small Things," Prof. Sarangi delved into everyday decision-making and game theory, drawing insightful parallels. With active participation from both faculty and students, the session proved to be engaging and thought-provoking, leaving a lasting impact on over a hundred attendees.

 

Budget Discussion by Professor Pinaki Chakraborty

On January 25, 2021, the Economics Society of Ecolibrium hosted a webinar featuring Professor Pinaki Chakraborty from National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP). Prof. Chakraborty discussed India's economic challenges amidst the pandemic, expressing optimism about policy responses and forecasting a strong recovery. The session, attended by 136 participants, concluded with engaging discussions on fiscal policy amid Covid-19, leaving attendees inspired and informed about the nation's economic trajectory. It served as a catalyst for further exploration and analysis in the realm of public finance and economic policy.
