Women Development Cell

About

PGDAV College has always been a frontrunner when it comes to creating gender-sensitive social and institutional spaces. The Women's Development Cell at PGDAV College is an active body that believes that students are the agents of change. The cell promotes gender equality by training and sensitising students and staff alike towards gender issues. Activities related to women's rights, physical and mental well-being, safety, and legal rights are held from time to time. Impactful events and awareness programmes are organised to promote gender equality, to empower women and to bring about a perspective shift. Students, girls as well as boys, are encouraged to engage in debates, discussions and dialogue to achieve an understanding of gender relations, to acknowledge and recognise patriarchal gender stereotypes that are culturally embedded in our social structure and to strive to steer away from such patterns. Some of the most effective events held in the past include a self-defence workshop for girls, theatre performances that addressed gender disparity, and a panel discussion on the 21st Century Indian Working Woman, to mention just a few. The WDC is committed to continue to work towards women's empowerment and gender equality.
