The Department of Mathematics of P.G.D.A.V. College was established in 1957 and the Honours program in Mathematics was started in 1958. The ex-faculty includes eminent mathematicians and dedicated educationists; some served the college in the capacity of Principal and Bursar, and our faculty members have been serving in the corporate life of the college by engaging themselves in various committees in prominent positions. The department aims at providing its students with a strong foundation and a variety of subject options to choose from the field of pure and applied mathematics so that the graduates from our department have a varied range of career choices to pursue, like teaching, research, civil services, banking, actuarial sciences etc. Faculty members of our department are also actively engaged in research activities in the field of mathematics and allied sciences and are also members of various learned societies. Over the years, our past and present faculty members have been guiding Ph. D. and M. Phil. scholars.
The Department caters to around 200 students annually. It is involved in the teaching of not only Honours papers but also the papers of the interdisciplinary courses and Generic papers offered to the students of other departments. The Department has a unique blend of teaching methodologies, which includes both conventional methods and advanced use of mathematical software, and we have fully equipped computer labs and smart classrooms. The Department has its own society named "Anant Mathematics Society", which organizes various academic activities, counselling by experts, extra-curricular activities, etc., for the overall development of students.
The results of the department are progressively consistent. The students from our department are pursuing higher education in reputed central universities, IITs and other academic institutions in significant numbers. Students are cracking reputed exams like J.A.M, T.I.F.R, N.D.A, etc. In brief, the Department is committed towards the growth of the students and institution and hence of the society!
