E-waste Management

Nora Krenmayr holds a BA in International Development from the University of Vienna and obtained her MSc in Social and Human Ecology from Alpen-Adria University in 2020. Currently, she is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Doctoral School of Social Ecology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). She carries out her Ph.D. research under the supervision of Prof. Christoph Görg in the project “Challenges for Social-Ecological Transformations – Addressing institutional dimensions of long-term and global resource use” funded by the Austrian Science Funds (FWF).

Achievements in Environmental Studies

The Department of Environmental Studies at P.G.D.A.V. College has been remarkably active and fruitful in its endeavors. Over the period, the department has made significant strides in both academic and extracurricular domains, establishing itself as a leading force in environmental education and research.

A key highlight of the department's academic achievements is its extensive publication record, boasting more than 100 research and review articles in renowned international journals, book chapters, and edited volumes, all indexed in prestigious databases like Scopus. Dr. Pardeep Singh, an esteemed Assistant Professor within the department, has more than 200 publications and notably secured two substantial research projects during this timeframe. The first project, titled 'Co-CH4 Oxidation Catalysts for CNG Emission Abatement,' funded by NPIU, MHRD, received a grant of 10,00,000 INR for a year-long duration in 2019. The second project, 'Assessing the Role and Contribution of Traditional/Local Knowledge Systems for Sustainable Development in the Indian Himalayan Region,' funded by ICSSR, obtained a grant of 15,00,000 INR for two years starting in 2023.

In addition to its scholarly achievements, the department has actively fostered international collaborations and knowledge exchange. Hosting foreign visiting faculties from esteemed institutions such as the University of Venice, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), and HSE University, St. Petersburg, Russia, has enriched the academic landscape and provided students with valuable insights into global perspectives on environmental issues.

The department has orchestrated numerous international seminars, workshops, and conferences, tackling diverse environmental topics and featuring renowned speakers from around the world. Noteworthy events include the O-Field International Workshop and Exchange Program on 'Himalaya in the Anthropocene,' organized in collaboration with other esteemed institutions. Additionally, the department has organized several national seminars and workshops, contributing significantly to academic discourse and community engagement on environmental matters.

The department has spearheaded various initiatives aimed at environmental conservation and sustainability. These include restoration projects, participation in environmental campaigns, and securing awards and recognition for efforts in waste management, water conservation, and campus sustainability. Faculty members have received accolades for their contributions to research, education, and social entrepreneurship, both nationally and internationally.
